Photographic Journey

My photographic journey began in year 2010 after studying abroad for a month in Kassel, Germany, and wishing I had better photos to show for it. This experience motivated me to take a photography course, buy my first digital SLR camera, and begin experimenting with different styles of photography. Rather than general commercial photography, I found myself drawn to light tricks and long exposure night effects such as light painting; combining light and movement at night to create interesting effects. I also purchased my first macro lens and began shooting macro photography, seeking out interesting small life in nature and reflections through water droplets.

In late 2015 I experienced my first Australian Psytrance bush party (my favorite music genre too) and saw the massive photographic potential that the scene presented, most especially at night time. This was the more professional beginning of PsyFreak Photography, and for the following year I was solidly shooting photography and producing videography for festivals and events throughout QLD and NNSW. I wanted to capture the incredible nightscapes the scene presented, the beautiful people and personalities connecting (but in a natural unstaged/undisturbed state), and promote the artists that presented unique talent, energy, style, and vision.

After a solid year of festival shooting I redirected my photographic focus to astrophotography, my creative focus to artwork, and endeavored to experience festivals and events through my own eyes rather than a camera lens.
